Avoid Rio Dental

Updated by user Nov 06, 2014

NOT 5 STARS - 0 STARS

Original review Oct 02, 2012
My Mom and I both had 2 crowns done at Rio Dental. All the work we had done had to be redone or became infected. The molar crowns were bulky and did not fit causing food traps between teeth. The crown done on my Mom on the lower front tooth fell off after 1 month. Even though they give you a warranty we would never step foot in that office again. We were trying to save some money but in the end it really cost us. I could go on about all the problems but just avoid this place at all costs.

Why did you give them 5 stars if you had an awful experience?

Zora A

It would be very helpful for other patients who are considering going to Rio Dental for dental work if you tell us what did the American dentist say about the work performed at Rio Dental.

They were shocked beyond belief when they saw what was done on my husbands implants.I can just repeat what you said,AVOID RIO DENTAL,it will cost you much more than you bargained for.

Rio Dental-Poor dental work, unethical and unprofessional

Rio Dental-Poor dental work ,poor service, unprofessional and unethical behavior. My husband had dental implants done by Rio Dental in March 2011.Today,six months after they were finished ,the entire dental bridge came off.Last week, one of crowns broke. He was charged between $12,000 and $15,000 for dental work at Rio Dental. He is completely dissatisfied and we complained multiple times, but Rio Dental did not want to correct issue. Here is our lengthy description of their service." My husband is deeply dissatisfied with the final product that he received from your dentists. The reason for his trip to Mexico was medical and cosmetic. He wanted to improve functionality and keep his appearance. He did not accomplish either of those. His functionality did not improve, and in fact, quite the opposite happened. With the way the implants were implanted and the way the bridges were applied, he lost almost half an inch of the space in his mouth. It is physically impossible for him to touch his palate when he speaks, so his speech is impaired. There is space between the jaw and the crowns, and when he tries to speak saliva comes through this space, disabling his speech. I am not a dentist, but I can see when he opens his mouth that something went terribly wrong. His upper jaw was made smaller than the lower jaw, my guess because the implants were incorrectly inserted; the upper and the lower implants are not matching. If you *** the bridges, and take an impression of both of his jaws, you will see that they perfectly fit together. But it looks now like someone inserted a goat jaw over a human jaw. When he opens his mouth now his teeth are almost more medial than lateral in the mouth. His natural jaw never had that look. Our children are laughing at the way he looks. I will send you his pictures from before and after the implants. You do not want the after picture to be associated with your office if you depend on US patients. If you look at the picture after the implants, you will see that his tongue has not enough space between the teeth. As I said I am not a dentist, but it looks like something went wrong from the start. The implants are not inserted straight, so they had to work on a bad foundation. His back teeth need to be moved more toward the outside of his jaw. His face now looks like he is toothless because the bridge is placed inside. When you check on the gum there is plenty of space outside for the teeth and for some reason the implants are placed closer to the inside of his palate. The reason for not being able to fix his *** is that he never had teeth there in the first place, and his anatomy does not allow him to *** down because the implants are too far inside the mouth. For some unknown and very unusual reason you took his dentures and did not return them. If you happen to still have them, compare his *** on the dentures with his current ***, and you will find out the reason why you could not fix his ***. We are letting you know that we are dissatisfied with your service. You can make this right if you decide to do so. You might want to talk to your group and, as a team, decide if there is something else that can be done to improve this. If you decide that you want to correct the issue, you should completely replace the upper jaw, and correct the way the implants are inserted. If that is not possible, make a plan on how to work around that and give him the results you promised when you first saw him. The first set of his teeth you worked on, the molars weren't done well and were too large, and eventually because of what I'm guessing were space issues, one of his front teeth broke. The doctor in charge decided to grind down the rest of the teeth to match the broken one and tried to send him home, with what looked like a strip of white plastic covering his upper gum. That was entirely unprofessional, and it showed that they could care less about his satisfaction than simply getting him out of their hair just because they had one case that went on a bit longer than they liked. This made him feel guilty for having even come to the office, and he felt like the team thought he was wasting their time. After that we sent our first email and asked you to resolve the issue. In the meantime, because that work took too long and his teeth were left without protection, he had to get three more root canals done because his teeth became so sensitive. He had the impression that there was no communication between the team members that were performing work on his teeth. The person who started the project did not even see the finished product. He complained numerous times that he is not able to speak because the bridge is too far inside his mouth. When he complained that he cannot speak, he was reassured that he needs to get used to the new teeth. He cannot get used to them if he never had them that deep in his mouth. Instead of starting from scratch and trying to make a new upper jaw, the team tried to continue working on the pieces that were the source of the original problem. The last day he was told that his jaw collapsed. Before starting negotiations about the implants your office was provided with the x-rays, and after you reviewed them we received confirmation that everything was fine with no bone loss, and no one mentioned or noticed that his jaw collapsed. If that was the case, then he should have been told that he needs a graft. When he went on his first visit for the surgery, no one said anything about a collapsed jaw. We are offering three options: First- Start working from scratch and replace his upper jaw completely, making sure that the teeth and bridges follow his natural jaw line. Pay for the ticket and hotel during his stay in El Paso. Second- If you decide that you don't want to be involved in fixing the issue, we will choose a dentist here and send you the bill. Pay for the work that has to be done to fix what happened in your office. In case that you don't want to work with us, we expect you to return the money that you collected for your work on his upper jaw, for Implants and bridges, and for his extended stay. After he gets this fixed, we will send you your bridges.

Rio Dental bad business practice

Rio Dental is writing their own reviews to get reed of bad publicity. I have noticed that as soon as one complaint shows up about Rio Dental,a nice review follows. Why would someone compliment a company on pissed consumer web site? The only reason in my eyes is that the company in question is trying to brush off a bad review. This company is not standing up to the promises that they give in the advertizement. If they were located in the US they would be held responsible for that in court Services provided by Rio Dental are much overpriced given the bad quality of their work. Also, they are getting away with it just becaue they are located in Mexico. It is a bad thing that they are ruining reputation of other fine dentists in Mexico.

what happened to this poor man

My husband sought treatment at Rio Dental in July 2010, because he read glowing reviews online. He was given 10 implants and two fillings. He was told to come back in March 2011 to finish putting in bridges and crowns for a brand new smile with implants instead of dentures.

This is where things went HORRIBLY Wrong. He spent 3 weeks in El Paso instead of 1 doing work that should have taken 5 days. They butchered his smile horribly. They attempted to send him home with a flat block of teeth in his front upper jaw after having been there for two weeks already, asking him to return in 6 months when they would get a new set of Bridges for his jaw. He decided to stay after much complaining and e-mail writing on my part to the office.

But this is not where it ends. When he returned home I realized just what an awful job they did. Instead of putting the implants in to go along his natural jaw line, they pointed them inward towards the roof of his mouth. They successfully minimized his teeth by at least half an inch. The crowns and bridges are so thick he has a permanent lisp and can't place his tongue on the roof of his mouth.

This Adventure cost us roughly $12,000 plus hotel fees, travel fees, and food fees for his stay in El Paso.

After going to a local doctor for an evaluation, he was told that 6 of the 10 implants need to come out immediately as they were not grounded in bone but simply GUM tissue. He was also told he would need several bone grafts, and all brand new bridges and crowns.

6 months after the items were placed in his mouth by Rio Dental, in September 2011, his front teeth fell out because the bridge simply came un-cemented. One of his rear molar crowns broke into two pieces, shortly before.

We are now left with a bill for $22,000( Twenty two thousand dollars), plus endless bone grafts and surgeries for my husband to attempt to fix his jaw. The doctors here have given him a "good" prognosis, but there is no guarantee that the bone grafts will take. He may be permanently in Dentures for the rest of his life. He's going to be 49 years old in October.

The moral of this story is , DO NOT under ANY circumstances go to Rio Dental. Your local Butcher, the one with one eye missing and his left hand gone, could probably do a better job than the Doctor at Rio Dental.

I was one of the ones that complimented Rio Dental. I googled their name to get their phone number to contact them concerning booking a Feb. appointment ( while I am going to be in the area ) for a crown and the complaint popped up. Honestly, they did great work for me, and they have done very nice work for all the other people I know that go there. These are nice people and they run an honest and very good business. They are highly skilled. My father came back and showed his regular dentist his crowns and his Brentwood dentist was very impressed. Everybody that has seen my smile has commented on it. My smile hasnt looked this good since I was 16.

All I know is a single implant and crown in middle Tennessee was going to cost me 3000.00. A single crown was going to be 785.00 plus another 200.00 if I needed a post and even more if I wanted porcelain margins. Rio dental saved me a lot of money and the work was first rate.

Fantastic Dentists!!

I am from Middle Tennessee and have visited Rio Dental three times now. Overall, over a course of a few years I have had a root canal, two fillings, five crowns, teeth whitening, and an implant done on a tooth that had been broken in an accident. The crowns look GREAT! The color match and size are so perfect you cannot tell they are crowns. I am so happy I smile all the time. My smile looks like a million bucks and I saved a ton of money. The implant they did was totally PAIN FREE. I didnt know what to expect, and I kept waiting for it to hurt but it never did. My father and many of his friends go to these dentists and have done so for many, many years. All the work they have had done has been very , very well done too. The people are so nice and their facilities and equipment are very good. All their crowns are made in the USA and they do dental work according to USA standards so we all felt very comfortable going there for our work. Many are happy in Tennessee and I recommend them! FRAUDULENT POST TIPOFF: A dental clinic in Mexico, with the cheaper labor of Mexicans, would NEVER use a US Dental Laboratory. Beside the cost, the logistics of getting lab deliveries across the border and paying customs would be too much trouble.

i got an email that someone had posted here on my comments. From all your posts it seems you are trying to help but in all fairness ....yes my crowns came from the US and yes they are still good today.

I have had no more need for crowns at this time so I havent been back so I do not know what they do now concerning crowns. I will say They did a good job. If you think this post is fraudulent , please email me at any time.

I will post my name and email, feel free to look me up on facebook and just take a look at my perfect smile anytime.

I'm from Tennessee and recently returned from a visit to Rio Grande Dental (2015). My experience was not as pleasant as yours Anne.

I had all my teeth pulled, received temp. dentures and I am suppose to follow up for full arch implant bridge for both the upper and lower in 4 months. There's no way I will return. The immediate dentures I was sent out the door with was so big for my mouth I had to have them replaced in a month.

Prior to having to dish out the money for a new "temporary" a better fit was attempted with weekly alignments and a soft linear, however, to no avail. If my immediate dentures were this shotty can you possibly imagine what type of nightmare I'd be in store for with implants? Heaven did me a favor and saved me from throwing away $18,000 on implant dentures made in a back alley USA "lab".

As for as a "US" lab, that is a gross misrepresation.

While on the way to the dental clinic on the second day, the shuttle driver stopped at a small house located in the US to pick up my dentures and other patients dental work. There was no signage whatsoever on the building and I'd be very much surprised if it was licensed. Things may have been great years ago when you made your visit.

However, today things are much different, I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy!

Are you aware, when you post here a new topic,it;s counted as complaint :) not helping your business Rio Dental

Since when a costumer who wants to give compliment to a service, goes to a "pissed consumer" web site,if that consumer is not the service provider itself who screwed trying to brush off a bad review

Guest

That is all i have to say

Guest

Too bad i believed reviews like that one. I went there, would not go back, would not recommend to anyone. They might know to place a filling if a dentist from another practice show them were to place it,and nothing else.

Too bad they are not in US,so i can send TV crew to check them out to warn US patients about them.

I wish there is a way to place the crowns that they create in their own mouths a message about the quality of their work.

Pleased !

I had a most enjoyable trip to El Paso/Juarez and the Rio Dental Clinic. Top notch. The driver (Oswald) picked me up on time, got me across the border very quickly and efficiently â€" and back to my hotel. My visit to Rio Dental and the work done by everyone was great. In and out in less than 4 hours including X-rays, work, and medication. It was pleasurable, efficient, quick. The cost was less than 1/4 of what it would cost in the U. S and much less hassle getting all the things done I needed. -Don Finkeldei

Mexican Dental Horror

Rio Dental Juarez...This company doing business in Juarez will not give their address. They demand that the patient is picked up by their driver in El Paso and be taken to an undisclosed location in Juarez. I have been traveling to Juarez for 30 years and want to stay in my hotel of choice in Juarez. I find it suspicious beyond belief that this company refuses to let the U.S. client know where they are being taken. Be aware of this company...I have found other Juarez dentists that have no problem letting you know where you are being taken...

Oh boy.I would like to see your crowns.I know that crowns from Rio Dental are twice the size of an average tooth. It really makes my wonder how your smile looks like with nine of them.

It also makes me wonder why did you come to pissed consumer website to write a nice review. You are not by any chance employed by Rio Dental? I would not be surprised if you were, because they are trying to get reed of bad publicity.

The driver was great, the facility was clean, the doctor and his assistant were very professional.

The guy that explained how the procedures would go was excellent.
